The Giant Himalayan Nettle plant is a beautiful flowering plant that is seen through out the Himalayan mountain side. The Panchachuli women have learned to create beautiful stoles and scarves from Nettle using a water process to make the plant fibers into threads. The threads are dyed with natural dyes at the farm and then hand knitted into lovely scarves and stoles. The plain Nettle stoles come in many exquisite colors and beautifully showcase the incredible patterns of the women’s hand knitting. Nettle Stoles that are hand beaded are backed with pure organic Himalayan silk. The silk is made from the cocoons left by the silk worms after they have vacated their cocoon and never harm the little silk worms. (The regular practices of making silk include boiling the poor worm in his cocoon. Egad!) No worm in Panchachuli is ever harmed in their process! The silk is then dyed with natural vegetable dyes and then used to back the nettle that has been knitted 1into luxurious scarves and stoles and then hand beading, all very unique, incredible and rare to find.
